Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel is set to appoint the new Prime Minister today, according to Kiran Pokharel, the President's Press Advisor. This follows the deadline set by the President for the formation of the new government.

In accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, President Paudel called on political parties on Friday to submit their claims for the new government leadership by 5:00 pm today. Consequently, CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli submitted his claim for the Prime Minister's post on Friday, with support from the Nepali Congress.

After the deadline expires at 5:00 pm, President Paudel will officially appoint the new Prime Minister this evening. However, the swearing-in ceremony for the Prime Minister and the ministers will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, as there will not be sufficient time for the ceremony today, stated Press Advisor Pokharel.

This political shift follows the loss of a parliamentary majority by incumbent Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda.' The CPN-UML decided to part ways with Prachanda and join forces with the main opposition, the Nepali Congress, leading to the formation of a new government.
